霍安-马丁内斯是西班牙本土球员，他在训练中展现出了很高的水平和与其年龄不相称的成熟度。在皇马和AC米兰的热身赛中，马丁内斯下半场替补吕迪格出场、在中后卫位置上表现出色（他的传球成功率达到93%，仅丢失两次球权，没有被过人，并在一次角球中创造了得分机会）。
